Mission Statement
This campaign aims to raise USD 2,923 to build a safe, durable home, install clean water and sanitation facilities, and support urgent health and educational needs for Shopna’s family in Bancha Nagar, Laxmipur Sadar Upazila. With your help, we will provide them with safety, dignity, and hope for a better future.
The Human Case
Shopna lives in Bancha Nagar, Ward No. 14, Laxmipur Sadar Upazila, with her ailing husband, their daughter, and son. Their current shelter has a leaking roof that fails during monsoons, offering scant protection from the elements. The family lacks access to clean water and proper sanitation, heightening health risks for all members. Shopna’s husband, a woodcutter, is hampered by a chronic illness that limits his workdays and income, leaving the family in precarious financial straits unable to afford basics like food, medicine, or school fees for the children.
The children’s education hangs in the balance due to mounting costs, while the family’s living conditions worsen their overall health vulnerabilities. “Every rainy season, I fear for our home and our children’s future—how can they learn or thrive without a safe place to rest?” Shopna shares.
Context & Urgency
Bancha Nagar, in the coastal Lakshmipur District, grapples with deep-rooted poverty, poor infrastructure, and limited access to clean water and sanitation. According to regional data, Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila reports 29.1% moderate poverty and 5.5% extreme poverty as of 2016, with district-wide figures at 32.5%. Nationally, poverty has climbed to 28% in 2025, up from 18.7% in 2022, pushing millions more into extreme hardship. In rural Chittagong Division areas like this, only about 45% of households had improved sanitation by 2014, and unemployment in nearby upazilas stands at 18.7%, trapping families in cycles of illness and low earnings.
The urgency is stark: without stable housing, clean water, and sanitation, Shopna’s family remains exposed to floods, disease, and deepening despair. Swift action is essential to safeguard their health and open pathways to stability.
