Mission Statement

The Safe Abode Initiative aims to raise USD 3,050 to construct a durable home, install clean water and sanitation facilities, and address urgent health and debt-relief needs for Nur Azad Ali’s family in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur District. Your support will restore their safety, dignity, and hope for a stable future.

The Human Case

Nur Azad Ali, a former rickshaw driver, lives in a borrowed shack in Kamalnagar Upazila with his wife, four children, and a grandchild. Their previous home was destroyed in the August 2024 Lakshmipur floods, leaving them exposed to harsh weather. Ali’s heart condition and his wife’s kidney stones cripple their earning potential, while their daughter’s foot disability adds caregiving burdens. A debt of 400,000–500,000 taka (approximately USD 4,000) from medical bills traps them, with irregular donations barely covering food. The children’s education is disrupted, and the family’s health deteriorates without proper shelter or sanitation. “We just want a small house to feel safe again,” Ali pleads.

Context & Urgency

Kamalnagar, in coastal Lakshmipur, faces relentless poverty and flood risks. The 2024 floods inundated 311,419 hectares, displacing 600,000 residents and destroying homes like Ali’s. District poverty rates hover at 30%, with rural healthcare crippled by a shortage of specialists—one doctor per 5,000 people. Nationally, 28% of Bangladeshis live in poverty, with 5 million homeless and 700,000 displaced annually by disasters. Without stable housing, clean water, or medical access, Ali’s family risks disease and deepening despair. Immediate action is critical to break this cycle.
