Deadline: October 15, 2025
Description
The International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) invites applications for the 2026 Seeding Neuroscience Grants, a global initiative designed to support the creation and development of neuroscience societies and thematic networks across regions. These grants aim to stimulate collaboration, foster capacity-building, and strengthen local scientific communities in neuroscience.
Applicants are encouraged to propose activities that bring together researchers and institutions, focusing on community formation, governance structures, and long-term sustainability of neuroscience networks. Activities can be conducted in-person or in hybrid format, allowing flexibility in participation. The initiative prioritizes inclusivity, regional representation, and visibility for emerging neuroscience groups, laying the groundwork for lasting scientific cooperation and exchange.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include neuroscience societies, academic institutions, or informal groups actively working to establish or strengthen a neuroscience organization or network. The proposed activity should have clear objectives, such as launching a new society, developing governance frameworks, or organizing networking events to connect researchers across regions.
Applicants must demonstrate institutional support and provide at least one letter of endorsement from relevant stakeholders — such as neuroscience organizations, universities, or research centers. The grant is open globally, with funding amounts determined by the corresponding IBRO Regional Committees.
Benefits
Successful applicants may receive up to:
- $5,000 USD (Africa)
- $4,000 USD (Latin America)
- $2,000 USD (Asia-Pacific)
The grant covers eligible costs, including venue rental, participant travel, accommodation, event materials, and audiovisual equipment for hybrid events. Administrative expenses (including promotion and outreach) are supported but cannot exceed 10% of the total budget.
Grants are awarded in an 80:20 funding format, where 80% is disbursed before the event and the remaining 20% after submission of a post-activity report.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit their proposals via the IBRO Grants Portal. A strong application should include:
- An overview of the applicant organization, including mission and objectives.
- Detailed description of the activity, its rationale, and expected outcomes.
- A provisional program and list of confirmed participants.
- A comprehensive budget aligned with eligible cost categories.
- A sustainability plan outlining post-activity engagement and funding continuity.
The application deadline is January 15, 2026, and all required materials must be uploaded through IBRO’s online system. Results will be announced following regional review and evaluation by IBRO committees.
