The American Political Science Association (APSA), in partnership with the Doha Institute, invites applications for the MENA Methods Workshop: Engaged Research in the Middle East and North Africa, to be held 5–8 January 2026 in Doha, Qatar. This four-day in-person program focuses on participatory and engaged research, offering methodological training and collaborative discussions on how political science can better address real-world challenges. The initiative is part of APSA’s multi-year effort to strengthen political science in the region and foster stronger ties between Arab scholars and the global research community.
Eligibility
Applications are open to advanced doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career scholars (PhD obtained within the last five years), as well as early-career PhD-holding practitioners who are citizens of MENA countries. Priority is given to applicants based at universities or research institutes in the region. Eligible disciplines include political science, peace and conflict studies, development studies, international studies, and related social sciences. Applicants must demonstrate professional fluency in English and present a research project in progress that fits the workshop themes.
Benefits
Participants will have their costs covered, including travel, accommodation, and materials, for the duration of the workshop. The program offers:

- A one-year membership to APSA upon completion
How to apply
Applications must be submitted in English through the official APSA portal. Required materials include an online application form, CV, research statement (or cover letter for practitioners), and one reference letter. Projects should not be completed or published work, but ongoing research that aligns with the workshop’s themes of participatory and engaged scholarship. The application deadline is 14 September 2025, with notifications to follow in late autumn.
