Description
The AAUW International Fellowships have supported women scholars since 1917, offering financial aid for graduate studies in the United States. This prestigious program targets women from outside the U.S. who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to advancing women’s empowerment in their home countries. Fellowships are awarded for master’s (first-time only) or doctoral programs across all fields, with special consideration for applicants from underrepresented nations.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all criteria:
- Identify as women and be non-U.S. citizens/permanent residents.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Be enrolled/admitted to a full-time U.S. accredited institution for master’s (first-time) or doctoral studies by September 2026.
- Demonstrate intent to return to their home country post-study.
- Submit proof of English proficiency (TOEFL 79+/IELTS 6.5+) unless exempt.
Exclusions: Current AAUW staff, prior fellowship recipients, or those pursuing part-time/online programs.Benefits

How to Apply
- Prepare Documents:
- Two recommendation letters (academic/professional).
- Proof of degree/transcripts (translated if not in English).
- English proficiency scores (if applicable).
- Admission/enrollment proof from a U.S. institution.
- Submit Online: Complete the application via the AAUW Fellowships Portal during the August–November 2025 window.
- Timeline: Awards announced by April 15, 2026; funds disbursed from July 2026.
