A Home and a Livelihood for Alia Begum’s Family in Laxmipur

Mission Statement

This campaign seeks to raise USD 4,120 to build a modest but durable house with sanitation and safe water access for Alia Begum’s family, and to purchase a battery-driven rickshaw for her son to generate stable income. These interventions will secure housing, restore dignity, and create a pathway out of extreme poverty.

The Human Case

Alia Begum, age fifty, lives in Koroitala village in Laxmipur Sadar Upazila. She suffers from severe diabetes, vision loss, and a tumor that doctors have said requires surgery. Without money, her health worsens daily.

Her family of seven does not own land or a house. They live on her brother’s land in an atmosphere of conflict and insecurity. Her son, unable to marry or establish his own life due to poverty, struggles to find occasional work but cannot support her treatment. Alia once survived through domestic work and agricultural labor, but her declining health has made her fully dependent on others.

Her words capture the urgency of her situation: “I have nothing—no house, no land, no money for treatment. I pray that someone will help me.”

The Need in Context

Laxmipur reflects the broader challenges of rural Bangladesh. Families without land are among the most vulnerable, often caught between environmental risk, low income, and lack of health care. Despite national progress in poverty reduction, nearly one-fifth of Bangladesh’s population remains below the poverty line, and out-of-pocket medical expenses push many further into debt or despair.

Alia’s situation is not abstract. It is immediate and concrete: a mother who needs shelter, urgent health care, and a way for her son to support the household.

Call to Action

Every contribution matters. Your donation will directly support housing, health, and livelihood for Alia Begum’s family.

Transparency and Accountability

Funds will be disbursed directly to cover building materials, construction labor, sanitation installations, and rickshaw purchase. Oversight will be provided by community representatives and the organizing NGO, with updates sent to donors including photographs and reports.

90% of funds will go to program delivery. 10% will be used for administration, monitoring, and donor reporting.

Urgency

Alia’s health is declining, and her family remains exposed to eviction and extreme poverty. A safe house and income source are urgent, not optional. Delay only worsens her condition and deepens the family’s vulnerability.

Social Proof and Credibility

This campaign is part of the People’s Voice initiative, which documents and responds to the struggles of vulnerable families across Bangladesh. Each case is verified through direct interviews, medical reports, and site visits. Alia’s story has been documented publicly to ensure transparency and accountability.

Thank You

Your donation does more than provide money. It builds shelter, creates work, and restores dignity. Alia Begum and her family will know they are not abandoned.

Together, we can give them a home, a livelihood, and a chance for recovery.
