World Bank Government Analytics Fellowship: Leverage Data to Strengthen Public Administration

Deadline: 28 September 2025

Description

The World Bank Government Analytics Fellowship is a prestigious and pioneering 6-month hybrid program designed to empower public servants to harness the power of data for enhancing public administration. Based on the insights from the groundbreaking Government Analytics Handbook, this fellowship bridges the gap between the vast, underutilized data held by governments and the potential for data-informed decision-making to improve efficiency and service delivery. The program is a collaboration between the World Bank’s Development Economics Vice-Presidency and University College London (UCL). It combines an immersive 2-week in-person training in Washington, D.C., with ongoing remote support, allowing fellows to develop a practical Government Analytics project with guidance from senior World Bank and academic experts.

Eligibility

This fellowship is exclusively for officials employed by central government organizations or agencies. Applicants must hold a mid-level management or senior analyst position (or its equivalent) that grants them the authority to develop and influence a government analytics project within their institution. They must be nominated by their organization, with a maximum of two applicants allowed per institution. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate prior tertiary-level education in statistics or related quantitative methods and must be proficient in English to fully participate in the program.

Benefits

Selected fellows will receive a comprehensive support package designed to foster their professional development and project implementation:

  • Fully-Funded Training: For applicants from ODA-eligible countries, participation includes all costs for the 2-week in-person training in Washington, D.C., covered by the World Bank (hotel, travel, and subsistence).
  • Expert Mentorship: Receive direct support and guidance from senior experts at the World Bank and University College London to develop and refine a Government Analytics project.
  • Cutting-Edge Knowledge: Gain firsthand access to frontier evidence and practitioner insights from the Government Analytics Handbook to catalyze change within your government.
  • Global Network: Join a collaborative and powerful network of like-minded government officials, data experts, and academics from around the world.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the official online application form by the deadline of September 28, 2025. Applicants must prepare and upload three required documents in English and in PDF format: a comprehensive CV (maximum 3 pages) highlighting relevant experience, a 150-word summary outlining how they will apply the fellowship insights to enhance their organization’s operations through a specific project, and an official endorsement letter from their organization that nominates them for the fellowship and confirms their position and authority to undertake such a project.
